We believe in providing excellent spiritual formation right from the start to form students into Christians who can bring about positive change in the world. An important element of our elementary students’ spiritual development is chapel. The purpose of chapel at Lakewood is to lead students in worship, instruct them in the Word of God, and encourage them in their daily walk with Christ. Chapels are designed to challenge students with a wide variety of speakers and many different experiences throughout the year. Our students in grades PreK-6 have chapel in the sanctuary with a speaker, music, and prayer.
There are two chapel times to accommodate the various interest levels and attention spans of our students. PreK – 1st grade meets for 30 minutes, 2nd – 4th grade meets for 35 minutes and the RISE56 (fifth and sixth grade) chapel is 35 minutes. After the RISE56 chapel, fifth and sixth graders meet with their RISE and Shine team to apply what’s being taught in chapel. Another key aspect of our spiritual formation at Lakewood is our missions, ministry, and service projects. Our elementary students are encouraged to participate in this key aspect of the Christian life, and classroom teachers often organize service projects for their classes. Our students support missions by donating money to a particular missions project, or collecting items for a particular mission.
