Released March 13, 2020-Updated April 17
Lakewood Park Families,
We have continued to monitor the decisions of the DeKalb County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Education as we make wise choices in an effort to protect our students. As you can imagine, the situation with COVID-19 has forced us to think in ways that aren’t common or standard. Though we have not had any confirmed cases in our staff or students, we have decided to take a proactive approach in reducing the spread of this virus. After consulting with other school leaders and local agencies, we have decided to implement the following plan:
LPCS will be closed effective next Monday, March 16 and will transition to a virtual learning structure following Spring Break. It was our original plan to resume classes on Monday, April 13, however due to the Governor’s order, that date will be pushed back to after May 1. We will continue to monitor COVID-19’s impact on our community and are prepared to further postpone the date of return if necessary. Teachers reported for two days of training prior to spring break. We utilized 4 of the 20 waiver days that have been approved by the Governor during that week, and no virtual learning will be implemented until after Spring Break.
Beginning the week of March 30, virtual learning lessons will be prepared and delivered to students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays will be accounted for as part of the State permitted waiver days.
*Please note that although the building is closed, teachers and administrators will be available throughout each week to assist students and families via online platforms, email, and phone. Feel free to contact staff members directly or email or call [email protected], 866-457-8687 with any general questions.
Students have been asked to bring home all technology, textbooks, and other materials that will be needed for learning to take place at home during these weeks of virtual learning
This decision is made in the best interest of our community in order to stop the spread of the virus. We are honored to serve you and our students.
Please review our LPCS Virtual Learning Guidelines, and you can also check out our Continuous Learning Plan that has been submitted to the IDOE. Please contact principals with additional questions. We are here for you!
