Visual Arts

Art
The Art Department at Lakewood is intended to enable the students to develop an interest in and an appreciation for the gift God has given through art. The high school art courses at Lakewood Park are designed to have many different experiences with drawing, painting and printmaking, sculptural media including clay, wire, wood, plaster, etc. High schools students also have an opportunity to learn some of the digital arts such as graphic design, and photography. Students’ artwork has been entered into many art shows from around the area, such as the University of St. Francis, Huntington University and Scholastic Arts. Lakewood students have received awards in each of these art shows in the past years. It is such a joy to see students realize the hidden artistic ability God has placed in them.

Mrs. Piper Placencia
A graduate of Anderson University, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts after graduating from DeKalb High School. I have attended County Line Church of God for the past 6 years. I serve on the nursery team and occasionally create artwork or props for the church. My husband, daughter, and I live in Garrett.

I began teaching at Lakewood Park Christian in 2004 which was the first year for the art program.

Lakewood has been an answer to prayer for me. I am able to teach what I love, impact students’ lives for Christ, and grow in my own walk with the Lord.

Mrs. Rachel Binkerd

I was a missionary kid in Quito Ecuador and graduated from Alliance Academy International, a small missionary kids school in Quito. After I graduated from Alliance I moved to Indiana where I received a Bachelor of Science in Art Education at Huntington University in the spring of 2012. I started teaching at Lakewood the following fall. I met my husband Jordan at HU and we got married six months after I started at Lakewood at the end of December.

I truly love teaching at a Christian School, where I can not only express my faith freely but where I can encourage other’s to grow closer to God.
